How Gawker Will Appeal Hulk Hogan’s $140M Trial Win

Jeremiah Reynolds was recently quoted in Eriq Gardner’s Hollywood Reporter piece on Gawker’s upcoming appeal in the battle over the online posting of a Hulk Hogan sex tape. Following a Florida jury’s staggering $140 million verdict in favor of Hogan, legal experts believe that Gawker has more than a fair chance of winning an appeal or cutting down the amount of damages awarded after the trial. During the trial, Gawker’s founder Nick Denton claimed that the suit was merely an attempt by Hogan to prevent Gawker from writing about the former wrestler’s racist comments. According to Jeremiah however, this argument is unlikely to prove effective in an appeal.

“It’s typically very difficult to overturn verdicts on evidentiary grounds,” says Jeremiah. “It’s more likely jury instructions matter.”
