Jay Z’s ‘Big Pimpin’’ Dispute Bound to Raise Cost of Making Hip Hop Music

KHIKS Partner Jonathan Steinsapir was heavily quoted in Anthony McCartney’s Associated Press piece on the ongoing copyright infringement lawsuit filed against rappers Jay Z and Timbaland. In the piece, Jon discusses how sampling typically works in the music industry, as well as the effect this lawsuit could potentially have on future sampling claims.

“It makes the costs of making hip hop music and other related music go up considerably,” Jon said. “There are whole genres of music that are priced out.”
